About this print:
Ko Tāwhirimaatea tēnei.

Te atua o ngā hau. Nāna hoki Te Whānau Titi. Tāwhiri was angry at the separating of Rangi and Papa, raging war on those involved with the strong forces of the wind. Tāwhiri attacked Tangaroa by throwing sea-life onto land. Tāwhiri attacked Tāne by ripping apart forests and trees. This kōrero we know as Te Pakanga o ngā atua. Tāwhiri was so enraged that he tore his eyes out and threw them at the sky where they remain as Mata-a-riki.
