About this print:
Ko Rūāumoko tēnei
Ko Rūāumoko te pōtiki o ngā tamariki ā Rangi rāua ko Papa. Ka noho tonu ia ki te kōpu ō tōna Māma.
The rage of Rūāumoko transpires in earthquakes and volcanic activity. Rūāumoko was not consulted in the separation of Rangi and Papa, thus exploded in anger and rage causing lava to flow and scar Papatūānuku. This created the first account of moko. In his rage his older siblings, Tangaroa, Waiōiterangi, Te Iho-rangi and his 4 children Te Ao-tū, Te Ao-hore, Te Ao- taruaitu and Te Ao-matakakā are depicted helping to de-escalate the impact.
